Simba: Instructions for the browser extension for Firefox
This manual shows you how to use and install our browser extension. It automatically summarises the content of German websites for you while you surf the Internet. To do this, follow the individual steps.
Step 1
Please open the URL in a Firefox browser to access the browser extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en/firefox/addon/simba-text-assistant/
Step 2
Click on the blue button that says "Add to Firefox".
Step 3
Confirm by clicking on "Add" in the window that opens in the top corner of your browser.
Step 4
Go to a website that you want to summarise and simplify.
We use the website of our research project "Public Interest AI" for this guide.
Step 5
Click on the puzzle piece in the right-hand corner of your browser and then on "Simba Text Assistant".
Step 6
Your summary will be displayed in the browser's add-on window. You can copy the summary by clicking on the icon. You can also give us feedback: Click on the "thumbs up" if you think the summary is good, or on the "thumbs down" if it could be better.
Step 7
Optionally, you can click on the gear icon and "Pin to Toolbar". The Simba lion logo will then always be in your toolbar. You won't have to click on the puzzle piece the next time you want to use Simba.
Step 8
You will then find the Simba lion logo in the right-hand corner of your browser.
What do you need to bear in mind when using the browser extension?
Our browser extension only scans the first 2600 words on a web page to summarise them in a simplified form. So if you want to simplify and summarise a longer German-language text, you can use our Internet app (Text Simplifier). This has no word limit when analysing texts.
Important note: The browser extension always summarises all texts (including English texts) in German.
