Maurice Jones
Maurice is a curator and Critical AI researcher based in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal and Tokyo. He is the Artistic Director of the electronic music and digital arts festival MUTEK.JP in Tokyo since 2016. In 2021, he joined MUTEK’s Montréal headquarter in developing its market activities and professional programming of the MUTEK Forum.
Maurice is a PhD candidate at Concordia University in Montréal and an associated researcher at the Humboldt Institute for Internet & Society in Berlin. He is interested in critical investigations of technology policy, cross-cultural perceptions of Artificial Intelligence, and curatorial practice as research-creation.
At the HIIG Maurice is working on the governance of AI in comparative study of Germany and Japan including the role of civil society in policy-making processes, the application of metaphors in governance discourses, and cross-cultural conceptualizations of autonomy.
