EdTech Redefined: Forging Resilient and Creative Universities

The Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society and CATALPA – Center for Advanced Technology for Assisted Learning and Predictive Analytics at the FernUniversität in Hagen invite you to join a groundbreaking research initiative – Organizational Resilience and Creativity: Exploring the Future of Educational Technology (ORC). This project is dedicated to investigating the potential role of technology in higher education. How do you think educational technologies will redefine universities? Can educational technology empower institutions to weather storms of change? How can we build more resilient universities better equipped to thrive in uncertain times? 

Case Studies: Curious Minds Wanted 

We are seeking 4 – 6 university study programs, spanning from bachelor to master degree levels, to become the focal points in our research. Whether you’re at the dawn of your digital journey or have fully integrated educational technology into your curriculum, we invite individuals affiliated with these study programs to apply (e.g. educators, professors, institutional leaders, administrators, IT and support staff).

• Knowledge Exchange: Collaborate with international experts, share your insights, and participate in illuminating knowledge exchange sessions – including focus groups and / or workshops with other participating case studies and the research team.
• Share and Discover Best Practices: Opportunity to share best practices within the global higher education community and work jointly on recommendations.

Your Role 

Selected study programs will become the canvas for our fieldwork: we will conduct online interviews and / or focus groups with staff members working at your institution. Our fieldwork will unfold in two stages: the first winter/spring 2024, followed by the second in winter/spring 2025. As a participant, you will be asked to:

• Open the Gates: Give our research team access to your institution, knowing that confidentiality and anonymity are our top priorities in the research process. 
• Key Liaison: Nominate a liaison partner within your institution to facilitate communication with our research team, identify key contacts for interviews, and to serve as a point of contact. 

Project Background

In recent years, the world of higher education has undergone a digital transformation, sparking a multitude of questions about the role that educational technology will play in shaping the future of our universities. In the research project, Organisational Resilience and Creativity: Exploring the Future of Educational Technology in Higher Education (ORC), we are embarking on an investigation of the dynamic interplay between educational technology, creativity and the resilience of higher education institutions. ORC is a collaboration between the Knowledge & Society research program at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society and CATALPA – Center for Advanced Technology for Assisted Learning and Predictive Analytics at the FernUniversität in Hagen.
