A multi-stakeholder dialogue: Women* in the tech sector in Mauritania
Saturday, 4 November 2023 | 3.00 pm – 7.30 pm
Azalaï Hotel | Ave Abdel Nasser, Nouakchott, Mauritania
This multi-stakeholder dialogue is co-organised by Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Nouakchott. This event will take place in Nouakchott, Mauritania for the anniversary of the opening of the Digital Transformation Center in December 2022.
In this dialogue, we want to explore the gender perspective within the tech-sector in Mauritania. Specifically, it will focus on the role of women* in this economic and societal area and on the challenges and successes they experience regarding equal access to digital infrastructure, digital devices and digital education. We want to identify and find out how to break down barriers that prevent women* from entering or establishing themselves in the tech-sector with the aim to enable a more diverse and inclusive landscape of women* tech entrepreneurs, civil actors, scientists, policy makers and many more.
The aim of the dialogue is to achieve a shared understanding of the perspectives, opportunities, and challenges that women* face within society and the tech-sector.
Furthermore, we want to develop strategies and measures to address and navigate these issues, advancing equality and equity in the technology sector in Mauritania. For this, we will bring together key stakeholders from Mauritania’s technology sector, civil society organisations, policy makers as well as experts with a specific focus on gender equality and equity in the tech sector.
Women* having access to technology has multiple benefits – above all: it improves their quality of life. This ranges from using various digital infrastructures to create ease or security in daily life to expanding career opportunities for women* through digital skills. Opportunities of self-fulfilment, education and security – those are the main issues we actively want to address and advocate through this dialogue.
At the end of our event we have planned a networking session where further ideas can be discussed and exchanged and new connections can be made.
Please note that this event is invitation-only.
