Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network – AUC Regional Conference 2020

On May 27, 2020 the Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network in partnership with the African Union Commission and in cooperation with the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society will host a Regional Conference for Africa. The virtual event will address transnational and regional legal challenges in cyberspace, emphasizing the value of multistakeholder cooperation to enable the digital transformation while simultaneously developing interoperable standards and solutions.

Key regional stakeholders from governments, internet companies, technical operators, academia, civil society and international organizations will be invited to share perspectives on regional trends and discuss the future of the cross-border internet in a African context.

The Conference will see the official regional launch and presentation of the world’s first Internet & Jurisdiction Global Status Report that maps key trends and actors of the ecosystem, and present opportunities for regional stakeholders to engage in the work of the Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network. As part of the meeting, the Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network will report on the outcomes of its 3rd Global Conference and present ongoing work and achievements of the three Policy Programs of the organization.

The event provides unique opportunities for stakeholders to discuss digital transformation as a means to diversify regional economies and to advance the development of the necessary legal interoperability solutions for  cross-border data flows and services.

The Conference will also hold a regional consultation, led by the Government of Germany on the future of the Digital Cooperation Architecture (Recommendation 5) in the context of the United Nations Secretary General High Level Panel Report on Digital Cooperation.
