Jascha Bareis

Jascha Bareis is a Researcher at the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) at the Karlsruher Institute for Technology (KIT) and Associate Researcher at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG), Berlin, supporting the research program “the evolving of digital society”.

He approaches the topic of Algorithmic Governance through merging Political Theory, Media Studies and Science & Technology Studies. Currently he is working at ITAS for the AI policy advisory project GOAL, “Governance by and through algorithms”, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and the project “social trust in learning systems” (GVLS). In cooperation with the HIIG, he investigates discursive constructions and normative dimensions around Artificial Intelligence and Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems, together with research leaders Dr. Thomas Christian Bächle and Prof. Dr. Christian Katzenbach.

He holds a MA double degree in Political Theory by the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and Technical University Darmstadt and a Bachelor degree in Liberal Arts by the University College Maastricht.

During exchange semesters at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Zagreb he dived into Chinese Philosophy and Ethics of Technology.
