Philipp Weitzel

Philipp Weitzel supports the GIZ cooperation project “Digitalisation, Entrepreneurship & Climate” as a student assistant and previously worked for the AI & Society Lab.

Philipp Weitzel is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Social Science at the Humboldt University in Berlin. His areas of interest include sociological theory, cultural sociology, practice theory, post-structuralist analyses and science and technology studies. As part of his bachelor’s thesis, he investigated various forms of subjectification and objectification that are introduced, transformed and possibly changed by the ubiquitous use of smartphones in our everyday lives. His current research project continues this interest and expands the analysis of subjectification and objectification processes with regard to the role of algorithms.

After his first degree in communication science and media management, Philipp Weitzel worked for several years as a PR and marketing consultant for clients such as Deutsche Telekom and UNICEF. Most recently, he was part of the communications team of the Futurium and was involved in the design and implementation of the opening campaign of the House of the Future.
