Uwe Hasebrink, Prof. Dr.
Prof. Dr. Uwe Hasebrink is the ombudsperson at HIIG. In this position he acts as an independent contact person and arbitrator of the Institute.
He studied Psychology and German Philology. He has been working at the Leibniz Institute for Media Research │ Hans Bredow Institute (HBI) since 1986, initially as a research assistant, and from 1988 in the position of Executive Director. In 1998 he was elected to the Institute’s Board of Directors. In 1999 he was appointed Professor of Communication Science at the University of Music and Drama in Hanover.
In spring 2001 he was jointly appointed by the University of Hamburg and the Hans Bredow Institute to a professorship for “Empirical Communication Studies”. Prof. Hasebrink holds various positions in national and international committees, e.g. as a member of the board of directors of the Research Center for Media and Communication (RCMC) and as a member of the team of spokespersons of the Graduate School Media and Communication at the University of Hamburg, as spokesperson of the specialist group for reception research in the German Society for Journalism and Communication Studies (DGPuK) or as a member of the Executive Board of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) or its predecessor organisation ECCR. His research focuses on media use and media content as well as media policy.
