Webinar II
Mapping Public Interest AI
24. August 2023 | 10.00 – 11.00 Uhr
Online (Zoom)
How can AI help to tackle the climate crisis or pollution? How can it increase accessibility or serve other goals that are good for society as a whole? We are mapping such AI projects serving the public interest globally and investigating their challenges and success factors. In this webinar, we want to discuss our research findings with you and engage in an active exchange. We will provide you with a brief overview with global examples of what our current understanding of AI in the public interest is. To do this, we draw on existing research – including our Civic Coding study, recently conducted by the Public Interest AI research group at HIIG for the Civic Coding Network.
With our new publicinterest.ai interface, we also want to gain a better understanding on how a public interest in the context of AI could be defined in different cultural and societal contexts. In the webinar, we will demonstrate the purpose of the interface, equipping you to become part of our collective to explore and map different public good initiatives. Cooperate with us to create a fundamental understanding and exchange for public interest AI and to stimulate a critical exchange with politics, science and civil society.
With your help, we can build an open-access network of knowledge and best practices that can help like-minded projects connect, collaborate, share resources, prevent redundancy and lead the future towards serving the long term survival and well being.
Joining the Interface’s Project Map by filling out our survey will:
- Make you part of our project – connect with fellow initiators & innovators, reach out to valuable partnership opportunities and publicly position yourself with our new PIAI-pledge
- Give you insights – learn about projects all over the world and draw from valuable resources to fuel your public interest enterprise
Host
The webinar will be hosted by Dr. Theresa Züger, she is head of the Public Interest AI research group, as well as the AI & Society Lab. Her research focuses on the political dimensions of digital technologies and cultures, with particular interest in questions of democratic theory.
